Work-hour minimums refer to regulations by the ACGME dictating that the work week be no fewer than 20 hours.
Controversy
- On December 4, 2016, the Dermatology Residency Program at Washington University at St. Louis was placed on probation after work-hour minimums were violated several times over a 5-year span.[1] This is contrast to all of the surgical subspecialties, which received a special commendation by the ACGME on December 5, 2016 for their "stellar work not only surpassing the work-hour minimums but also soaring above the work-hour restrictions." None of the subspecialties have had time to pick up their awards.
