Work-Hour Minimums
Work-hour minimums refer to regulations by the ACGME dictating that the work week be no fewer than 20 hours.
Controversy
On December 4, 2016, the Dermatology Residency Program at Washington University at St. Louis was placed on probation after work-hour minimums were violated several times over a 5-year span.[1] This is contrast to all of the surgical subspecialties, which received a special commendation by the ACGME on December 5, 2016 for their "stellar work not only surpassing the work-hour minimums but also soaring above the work-hour restrictions." None of the subspecialties have had time to pick up their awards.
