CREST

Among both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with carotid stenosis, the 2010 CREST study found that carotid stenting, carotid endarterectomy, and carotid toothpaste were associated with similar rates of stroke, myocardial infarction, and MI, though carotids in the toothpaste arm were whiter with less cavities. Subgroup analysis found that the rates held steady in patients with systemic sclerosis.
