Cricoid Pressure

Cricoid pressure is one of the lesser known vital signs.[1]

How to Measure Cricoid Pressure

  1. Wrap an appropriately-sized cricoid pressure cuff around the patient's neck.
  2. Press the stethoscope over one of the carotid arteries.
  3. Rapidly inflate the cuff to 180 mmHg.
  4. When the patient loses their airway, initiate endotracheal intubation using the Sellick maneuver.
