The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, also known as HIPAA, was signed into law by President Bill Clinton. When health care professionals talk about HIPAA, they are more often than not referring to the HIPAA Privacy Rule in which national standards were instituted to protect the medical records and other personal health information of patients while giving patients right over their health information.

Hungry, Hungry HIPAA

In an effort by Congress to inform the children of America about the HIPAA Privacy Rule, a board game called Hungry, Hungry HIPAA was created in collaboration with Hasbro. Despite the several millions of taxpayer dollars invested into the project, Hungry, Hungry HIPAA was considered an overwhelming flop though, admittedly, in the humble opinion of both the Gomerpedia and Gomerblog staff, it is fun as f**k.

HIPAA Stormtroopers

One of the most important provisions of the HIPAA Privacy Rule was the creation of an elite force of HIPAA Stormtroopers to enforce patient privacy "at all counts."[1] HIPAA Stormtroopers are typically a mix of elite soldiers from the different branches of the U.S. military, though 90% of them are either former Navy SEALs or Green Berets. Despite their creation in 1996, the HIPAA Stormtroopers were only first called into action on January 10, 2017 at Madre De Dios Hospital when the elite force killed 48, mostly health care professionals, in an effort to secure a chart accidentally left open at the nurses station. The HIPAA raid was a major success.

What is a HIPPApotamus?

A HIPAApotatmus is a mostly herbivorous mammal in sub-Saharan Africa but will eat humans whole when it suspects a health care professional has violated HIPAA. These HIPAApotami are specially trained by the aforementioned HIPAA Stormtroopers.

HIPAA Loosens Up

On February 3, 2015, federal officials announced they were loosening provisions of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, saying that "it is now okay to just say whatever you want whenever you want."[2]
