Tinder

Tinder is GPS-based social medial mobile app used to match mutually-interested fourth-year medical students and residency program directors.[1] Tinder's ease of use is why it is slowly supplanting the National Resident Matching Program or The Match.

How to Use Tinder

  1. Download the app for Android or iPhone.
  2. Swipe left if you're not interested in a fourth-year medical student or residency program.
  3. Swipe right if you are interested in a fourth-year medical student or residency program.
  4. If you both swiped right, then "It's a match!"
  5. You are now contractually-obligated to stay together until the duration of residency.

Advantages of Tinder Compared to "The Match"

The main advantage is the painful application and interview process has been replaced with swipes and text message, making it both convenient and less expensive.

Disadvantages of Tinder Compared to "The Match"

Unlike Tinder for the general public, a "match" between fourth-year medical students and residency programs is contractually obligated for the duration of the residency training program. This is designed to prevent applicants and residency programs from sleeping around like whores.
