LOL refers to a little old lady.[1] A little old lady[2] or LOL meets three criteria: she's little, she's old, and she's a lady. LOL should not be mistaken for laugh out loud (also LOL), unless you want to describe a little old lady laughing out loud, in which case LOL LOL is appropriate.
