A balance beam is a horizontal bar raised off the floor on which a gymnast or surgical robot performs exercises.[1] Balance beams had been used exclusively in gymnastic events, but is now playing a prominent role in the Coumadin Gauntlet, a method by which ideal patients are selected for Coumadin therapy.[2]
