To sign off is when a health care provider or subspecialist decides they no longer need to follow a patient. Historically, every one can sign off a case except the primary team and it typically occurs within 24-48 hours of coming on board. However, on April 3, 2017, internist Dr. Carrie Ramirez of Knoxville Medical Center became the first primary provider to sign off a patient's case. Currently, the patient is not being seen by anyone.[1]
