A CVC (or central venous catheter) is a catheter inserted into any of the large veins in the neck or groin. Do not try aiming for the superior or inferior vena cava.

Good Indications for CVC Placement

  1. Administration of vasopressors or caustic agents given peripherally
  2. Monitoring of central venous pressure (CVP)

Poor Indications for CVC Placement

  1. Boredom
  2. Never have seen a pneumothorax before
  3. Sh*ts and giggles
