NPO Variations
In preparation for a test or procedure, it is not uncommon to order that a patient is NPO, the most common variations include NPO after midnight and NPO except medications. But these aren't the only variations:

- NPO after Wednesday
- NPO except medications
- NPO except ice chips
- NPO except potato chips

- NPO 'til death do us part
- NPO Tuesdays/Thursdays/Saturdays[6]
- NPO until 2018
- NPO until patient fesses up where he/she hid all the graham crackers
