Dizzy Gillespie was an American jazz trumpeter and considered one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time.
The Story Behind His Nickname
It is unclear what is the true story behind his nickname. In fact, Dizzy Gillespie was hospitalized numerous times with sole purpose of trying to discover why he was Dizzy. He was never orthostatic, dehydrated, his Dix-Hallpike maneuvers were always negative, as were his echocardiograms and neuroimaging. His true nickname at one point was Dizziness & Giddiness Gillespie, but was shortened to the much better sounding Dizzy Gillespie. As far as we know, Dizzy Gillespie denied vertigo and never took meclizine.
