Rejection Reactions
Rejection reactions refer to how a consultant reacts to the request for a consult.[1][2]
Classifications
- Hyperacute rejection - This form of consult rejection occurs within 15 seconds of the request. Often times, the consultant will laugh, hang up, say an emphatic "NO!" before you even finish speaking.
- Acute rejection - This form of consult rejection occurs within 5 minutes. In this type, the consultant will actually listen to your request for a consult, as if they might say "Yes!" but then they actually say "No."
- Acute humoral rejection - This is when a consultant politely declines a request and even laughs about it.
- Chronic rejection - This is characterized by a consultant saying "No" to consults over a period of 4 to 6 months. It is most commonly seen among surgical subspecialties.
