Scapula
In the kitchen, a scapula is a utensil with a flat, flexible end that helps in flipping and tossing food items, like eggs or pancakes. In the hospital, a scapula is a similarly shaped (and sometimes larger) utensil that helps in flipping and tossing patients, like Steven in Room 311. When used correctly, a hospital scapula can instantly reposition a patient, thus ensuring he is treated evenly on all sides. When used incorrectly, a hospital scapula can severely injure a patient by dropping him or her right on the side rail or, worse, onto the floor. For this reason, always exercise care when flipping patients, particularly post-surgical and elderly patients, with a hospital scapula. Also be very careful not mistake a scapula for a spatula, which is a whole other thing entirely.
