The American diet is a new diet choice piloted at University of Louisville Medical Center and will likely spread to other hospital systems like wildfire. It consists of 5,000 calories, 15 grams of sodium, and 750 grams of fat per tray. Unlike the Mediterranean diet, which centers on fruits, vegetables, and olive oil, the American diet centers on bacon, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pork sausage, and pizza.[1] All trays come with large fries and a vat of your choice of melted butter, lard, or duck fat.
