Whereas herpetic whitlow is a lesion on a finger caused by HSV, Herpetic Whitman is just the unfortunate name of a 36-year-old in the Whitman family. It is unclear why his parents, Alexander and Lisa Whitman, named him Herpetic considering they named their other two children Amanda and Leonard. Though he wishes his sexual history should be kept private, it is probably safe to assume Herpetic Whitman has herpes.[1]
