A CVC (or central venous catheter) is a catheter inserted into any of the large veins in the neck or groin. Do not try aiming for the superior or inferior vena cava.
Good Indications for CVC Placement
- Administration of vasopressors or caustic agents given peripherally
- Monitoring of central venous pressure (CVP)
Poor Indications for CVC Placement
- Boredom
- Never have seen a pneumothorax before
- Sh*ts and giggles
