A medical history is that thing health care providers obnoxiously try to obtain from patients when clearly it is just "on the computer."[1] History of present illness? It's on the computer. Past medical history, surgeries, and medications? Don't fret, it's on the computer. Family history? That's on the computer too. On rare occasions, a patient may bring a tape recorder and play back a recording of his medical problems rather than telling you directly.[2]
