A lovechild of the Joint Commission, the Pyramids of Punishment were created to penalize medical providers who violate patient safety measures.
Types of Pyramids of Punishment
Currently there are four pyramids: (1) attending physician, (2) nursing, (3) intern, and (4) hospital administrator.[1] In the most severe violations, an attending physician, nurse, or intern can be punished by death. In the case of hospital administrators, they have the best pyramid as they are immune to punishment.
