Lesser known than DNR or DNI, DNE stands for do not extubate.

Origins

It is unclear the origins of the DNE order. Decades ago, the prevailing thought was that it was created by patients who never wanted to die. However, recent evidence shows it's actually an order entered by health care professionals directed towards radiologists: do not extubate the patient when the patient gets down there, for Pete's sake!
