What happens if Ortho can't fix a bone?

In this scenario, Orthopedic Surgery does one of two things: (1) nonoperative management and hopes the bone heals on its own or (2) buries the bone in the ground in the hope it can be used as a chew toy or for a game of fetch in the future.
