Whereas herpetic whitlow is a lesion on a finger caused by HSV, Herpetic Whitman is just the unfortunate name of a 36-year-old in the Whitman family. It is unclear why his parents, Alexander and Lisa Whitman, named him Herpetic considering they named their other two children Amanda and Leonard.
