Steroids are the kitchen sink of medications. When nothing else is working, usually it doesn't hurt to give some steroids. In fact, diseases that fall under the heading of pulmonology, rheumatology, or dermatology are universally treated with steroids, thus making the need to differentiate between conditions within either of these subspecialties completely unnecessary and a time saver.
