Epi-Pens (1).JPG

An EpiPen is an epinephrine autoinjector used in the treatment of anaphylaxis. Thanks to Mylan Pharmaceuticals, this life-saving treatment is now harder to get than tickets to Hamilton on Broadway.[1][2][3] It is still cost-prohibitive even despite the creation of generic formulations of epinephrine, which why a study of the concentration of epinephrine in expired Epipens published in the Annals of Internal Medicine was a much needed breath of fresh air: expired Epipens are "probably" still effective, retaining about 80% of their potency up to 4 years after the expiration rate.[4] So what does that mean? Those with allergies have two great choices: fork over your mortgage or rent for a new EpiPen or use your old one and know that you "might" survive.
