Boarding refers to the holding of patients in the emergency room (ER) until a hospital bed opens up, often a complication of overcrowding. According to health care professionals who practice in the ER, boarding is definitely not as fun as snowboarding or surfing. Especially if you're the one getting boarded (see picture).
