A below-the-neck amputation (or BNA) is new form of amputation recommended by podiatrists and vascular surgeons. Citing the surgery as essentially a "cut to the chase," it is meant to save the time and energy for both patients and surgeons of converting transmetatarsal amputations to foot amputations, foot amputations to below-the-knee amputations, etc. Inner surgical circles are already referring to below-the-neck amputation as an inverted decapitation.
