A medical emergency has different meanings depending on whom you ask:

  1. According to medical personnel, a medical emergency is just that: a medical emergency.
  2. According to patients and families, a medical emergency may not always be just that, in which case this flowchart is helpful: Is Your "Medical Emergency" Really An Emergency?
  3. But everyone can agree a paper cut is always a medical emergency.
