In sports, turf toe refers to a sprain of the ligaments around the first toe, usually in football players as it relates to artificial turf. In health care, turf toe refers to the same sprain of ligaments around the first toe but is usually the result of aggressively turfing or kicking a patient to another service (sometimes physically). Though it very painful, medical turf toe is totally worth it.
