Something the Fat Man loves: the three-by-five index card

To card flip is to talk about patients and their management without actually seeing them at bedside. The term refers to three-by-five index cards and their ability to contain entire patient histories, these being the frame of reference when a medical team talks about patients. The card-flip is the alternate to rounds or rounding, but it has the added benefits of sitting down and avoiding patients. It is not lazy. Contrary, it is efficient.
