Depending on who you ask, the nurse-to-patient ratio varies. If you ask a nurse, depending on the patient population and their acuity, a favorable nurse-to-patient ratio is on the order of 1 nurse for every 2 to 4 patients. This is reasonable. If you ask a hospital administrator, a favorable nurse-to-patient ratio is on the order of 1 nurse for every 10 to 30 patients. This is unreasonable. And this is why hospital administrators suck.[1][2]
