Bloodletting

"Now once I collect this blood, I'm just going to discard it. We'll keep repeating until you need a transfusion, okay?"

Bloodletting refers to the intended bleeding of a patient for therapeutic purposes. It is hardly used these days, though modern-day phlebotomy bears a close resemblance.
