High fructose corn syrup (known as HFCS) was first introduced in 1970s by the Clinton Corn Processing Company and in just a matter of a few decades it has created the current health crisis due to obesity. The World Health Organization recommends limiting added sugars like HFCS to 10% of a person's caloric intake. But in the United States, Americans like to achieve their dreams and shoot for at least 20%, sometimes even achieving 50% on a good week.
