Heebie-Jeebies

The heebie-jeebies (or HJs) are a poorly-understood condition that leads to fear and anxiety. Someone might look at something and say, “Yikes, that gives me the heebie-jeebies” but it is unclear how the heebie-jeebies are actually transmitted.
Etiology
To put this into context, the HJs have confused researchers and clinicians more so than than the cooties; the cooties, at least, are transmitted through direct contact. The HJs, however, seem to be acquired upon instantaneous visual acquisition, suggesting perhaps some sort of primitive oculolimbic reflex.
