BMI stands for body mass index. In America, BMI is synonymous with obesity. So much so that the World Health Organization updated its BMI classification system (see Figure 17).[1] This is the first revision to the BMI classification system since the American Medical Association raised the BMI cutoff for obesity from 30 to 35 back in 2013.[2][3]
